The projects 'IPE sostenible' and 'MiHouse', created by students in the class on sustainability at the ESARQ School of Architecture, were the winners at the first edition of the prizes of the CEIM Industrialized Construction Using Environmental Parameters Department held at the UIC on Tuesday morning, 20 September 2011.
First prize went to the project “IPE sostenible” by Gemma BartolĂ, Marta BartolĂ and Carola Closa. The jury highlighted the potential of the indoor wall as an element for spatial organization and for including energy systems. The runner-up was the project “MiHouse” by Alex ClarĂ and Marta Serra for integration of the outdoor and indoor space, as well as the final image of the building and the ability to integrate energy systems into the architecture.
The inauguration ceremony was presided over by Dr. Pich-Aguilera, who congratulated the award winners and reminded those attending that one of the objectives of the department is for students to maintain a direct relationship with the business world. Dr. Pich-Aguilera also said, “Initiatives and projects like the ones presented by the prize winners are key to ensuring that companies develop innovative ideas and research concepts”.
The department was created in February 2011 on the initiative of Dr. Pich-Aguilera and with support from the four founding and collaborating companies, which represent different parts of the construction industry: Construcciones Bosch Pascual (general construction), Intemper (roofs and façades), Prefabricats Pujol (prefab construction systems) and Rockwool (insulation).
By creating this department, the ESARQ’s aim is to address market needs and cooperate in a broader scientific-technological area than can be done in an R&D project. The department works in three main areas: training, generating knowledge and technology and knowledge transfer.
One of the objectives of the CEIM is to establish ties for collaboration and joint development between the UIC and different construction companies and industry players to obtain significant results in terms of sustainability and respect for the environment.
