Prefabricados Pujol was set up in 1942 by Mr. Miquel Pujol Oliva and his wife Mercè Gorné Gaset. Having an initial staff of four employees, it started its activities as a local manufacturer of concrete pipes, and three years later with hydraulic mosaic.

This was a difficult period, the civil war had just finished and they were starting to form a family. They had already had their first son who was now one year old. Miquel was a builder, the same profession as his father and both had worked in the construction of the Canal d’Urgell like his wife Merce and her family. They came from the region of ‘La Noguera’ from Gualter and Tossal respectively but had moved to Mollerussa when they were children as this town was where the head offices of the Canal d’Urgell project were located.

When the war had finished, Miquel and his wife Mercè saw an opportunity of to work on their own when the town council of Mollerussa made plans to lay a network of drainage systems, they put forward their proposals and subsequently won the contract and then set up a small workshop making concrete pipes. The pipes varied in size upto a meter in height and between 15 to 60cm in diameter. Miquel and his collegues, pressed the concrete while his wife Mercè made the orders for the raw materials, paid the staff and controlled the bills from the rented whorkshop room. Afetr a short period of time they could buy themselves their own premises thanks to Merce’s mother Victoria. She had brought 12 pigs and reared them for sale, she also worked as a porter at “casa Canal” and with the money earned this helped Miguel and Merce’s cause.





Times were not easy, but they continued to develop. Miquel had more than fifty employees making the drains.

Pipes factory was overloaded because in those moments all the influenze zone of the main channel was being put in irrigation.

In 1945 another project started. They bought a press for manufacturing hydraulic mosaic. This product of great esthetic beauty still remains today and has stood the test of time.

The Pipe factory was expanding all the time, all moulds and land had been paid for with the money the company had made. In the middle of the fifties the company had aquired two presses of mosaic and had mechanised the manufacturation of pipes. The development gave the product enhanced compactation, strength and capacity of production. The slogan was "Centritub Pipes, even water prefers them".

By this time Miquel and Mercè had got four sons: Josep Mª, Ramon, Angel and Mª Mercè.

Whilst growing their family they were also broadening their businesses, firstly with a workshop of artificial stone, granite polished stairs, balustrades, cornices, some of the products from a large catalog, all of them manufactured in moulds of reinforced concrete. Then they started to manufacture the first reinforced small beam and started to sell the first prestressed ones representing a company from Lleida called Aguiló who were pioneers and very advanced with this type of concrete.

By the beginning of the sixties the Company had the production of pipes well established using new vibro-pressed concrete machines that allowed high production volumes achieving diameters of 120 centimeters. In mosaic manufacturing it had four presses two of them used for 20x20 and others for 40x40 pieces.

It was at this moment a very important decision was made for the future development of the company. A factory was constructed for the production of prestressed concrete beams. Although its production was very small, about 40 linear meters daily, this increased up to 80, 120 and finally 160 linear meters, using all the available space for manufacture and storage.





Five years later they bought more land to build new plant and called it F-1, for the production of prestressed small beams with a minimum capacity of 360 daily linear meters that coud be increased up to 720. At this time Angel, the third son started in the company helping his parents in production tasks. Today he still works for the company and is deirector of production. A few years later the eldest son, Josep Mª finished his studies as a quantity surveyor and also started to work at the company. He started working on technical and organisation tasks.

In 1969 Mrs Mercè Gorné left us, she was only 52 years old. A life fully dedicated to the service of the family and helping to grow the family company. She left us at the moment when the company took a very important decision that would bring it up to the present day magnitude.

At the beginning of the seventies more land located near the current were bought. This was the place where factory F-2 was built. This new plant had 16 casting beds giving a daily capacity of production of around 6000 linear meters. In this period the Company took the name of Prefabricados Pujol and a technical office was set up to constitute the basis for the organisation to grow and discover new sectors in the prefabricated concrete market.

In 1972 a company dedicated to the making of rebar (reinforcing bars) for the construction industry was created. Its name was Gercusa.

In the middle of 1975 the company started to manufacture reinforced frameworks for roof covers. A installation and assemblying company was created, called Lecsa.



In 1977 a pioneering company for prestressed concrete became part of the Group, Aguiló from Lleida (who had already collaborated before with Pujol) And the following year Brugent fro Reus was acquired. Both companies are now working to day on the distribution of materials.

A year later an office was opened in Barcelona. It was for technical and comercial uses and its name was Promociones de Prefabricados.

At the beginning of the eighties they acquired a factory in Bellpuig for manufacture of small beams producing more than 2000 linear meters daily and now producing up to 8000 linear meters. This plant also manufactures prefabricated structures for farms and small industrial plants. These products came under the name of Prefabricados Pesados.

A year later in Mollerussa factory F-3 was built. This plant was dedicated to the production of structural elements for industrial buildings. More land was acquired for future expansion. The company now had 400.000 m2 of industrial land with more than half available for future development.

Fetra, was a factory of small beams located in Vendrell and became part of the Group in the year 1984. At the same time a new company was formed that would work on all technical, commercial and administrative tasks. It was called Asesoramiento de Empresas de Prefabricados (ASEPSA) and it would service all the companies.

In 1985, another factory of small beams from in Tàrrega also also became part of the Group. It was called Arquimat.



Two years later, Prefabricados Pesados made a large investment to increase the production for industrial construction and entered the business of prefabricated concrete products for the Public sector. It was inaugurated two years later.

In September 1989 just before finishing these installations Mr Miquel Pujol co-founder together with his wife of the Group died, having the pride of seeing a great dream was done and knowing that his task would be continued because he had left at the front of the organisation two of his sons. Also a big team of capable people that would allow the Group to overcome and create new milestones.

At the beginning of 90’s a factory of terrazzo, small reinforced beams and other elements made of vibrated concrete was acquired in Estepona (Màlaga).

In the year 1991 technical and commercial offices were opened in Madrid and in 1994 the biggest plant of terrazo manufacturing in the country was integrated into the Group. It was called Graus, Terratzos i Paviments.

The following year, allowing the Group to offer more services a new company for transportation was created, Logistical Company of Heavy load Transports. COLTRAPESA, having an important number of vehicles it was created and adapted to adopt the needs of transportation of heavy and large loads.

In 1996, two new acquisitions were done, a factory of small beams in Vinaròs (Castelló) and a society of large prefabricated products in Solsona, CM Solsonès.

In the middle of 1997 the group opened up a factory in Maqueda (Toledo) under the name of Pujol Industrial. Its located on the Road to Extremadura and is dedicated to prefabricated products for industrial plants and public work. It has two large factories and enough land for future expansion.



In 1998, a unique project for which the group feels very proud of itself was created. It is named FERROFET CATALANA and it is a rebar workshop. It was designed in such a way that the wifes of the other employees could work on a 4 hour daily shift pattern. In 1999 the President of the Generalitat, Mr Jordi Pujol opened it.

The same year two new factories started production of hollowcore slabs, one in Mollerussa at their existing plant and the other one in Fuenmayor (La Rioja) called Prehorvinor. A factory was also acquired for vibro-pressed elements in Piera (Barcelona) that will be named Formiler.

With the aim of assuring the supply of raw materials, in year 2001 conversations started with a company called Àrids Romà to participate in its business of aggregate treatments. As result of these discussions it led to a new shared company. It was Romà Catalana d’Àrids, having all its own quarries.

At this point the third generation of the family became involved within the group management of the company, it was thought necessary to make an important step towards new activities and importantly near to the groups main headquarters in Mollerussa. This was why the Group bought a large amount of land approximately some 120 hectares near Les Borges Blanques. It is located very near to the highway and also the railway with possibilities of a rail link on the site. Since 2003 they have invested constantly on this land and created new products for both industrial and public sector such as prefabricated housing.

In 2007 a factory of prestressed small beams in Sant Fruitós de Bages called EEPSA is acquired.

Later in 2007 using some of the land at Les Borges, a cement grinding plant was constructed. This was to provide the assurance of local raw materials. In 2008 a few kilometers from the site a new quarry was opened by Romà Catalana d’Àrids company, In Arbeca.



In January 2009 the Group makes an important step towards internacionalisation and buys a plant of prefabricated concrete elements in the city of LEEDS, United Kingdom. The site was previously owned by the BISON group, once the most important company in this sector in the UK. The acquisition was a very good opportunity to enter this market.

At the begining of June 2009 a plant of vibro-compressed pavings is bought from a company called UNILAND, located in Les Borges Blanques to near the entrepreneurial park where the Group is continualy expanding.

In August of this year, PREFABRICADOS PUJOL and PREFABRICADOS PESADOS merged. Two large companies of the same Group that were involved in the same activities. The name of this new fusion will be PREFABRICADOS PUJOL S.A., a more consolidated and renowned company in this sector.

Later this year, the assets of the SPAN-DECK company, located in the village of El Bruc, were acquired. This facility will produce wall sheathing and special frame structures for large buildings.
